My timid body was lying helplessly on bed. I was awaiting for this unsurpassable agony engulfed time to pass swiftly.
My timid body was lying helplessly on bed. I was awaiting for this unsurpassable agony engulfed time to pass swiftly.
Just then, the doctor and my dad entered with the reports. The doctor handed the report to my father displeasingly and with a sigh. This was the signal that indicated that there was something wrong. I asked the doctor about what had happened , fretfully. He took a deep breath and told me pityingly, “ You kidney is really fragile. You need to have a kidney transplant.” I looked at him disbelievingly , hoping that what he said was just a mistake. My dad, held my hand and then gingerly caressed me.It took me sometime for this to sink in me. I felt helpless. My heart ticked like a time bomb against . Soon it was time to leave the hospital. My dad was having a solemn discussion with the doctor. I pressed my ear on the door, to overhear the discussion. What I heard just added to my melancholy. There was no donor available at the time and I hardly had time to squander. I took a step back and dashed out and into the car. I sobbed acrimoniously at my accursed destiny. There was nothing I could do to improve my condition.
As I returned home, I embraced my mother and let the tears gush out like a waterfall . On knowing what had happened to me , she was disheartened and tried turning a deaf ear but couldn’t. There was a pandemonium in my house. Everyone was just solicitous about me. Soon time flew like a bird. One night, my dad entered my room and told me, “ Mom has a gift for you !” He was not very elated at that time, but tried his best to be. I smiled at him back. I felt satiated and somewhat jubilant see him smile after decades.
Two weeks later, my dad woke me up, shaking me vigorously. He took me to the hospital. I was flummoxed, as I had no news , about going there. I was soon taken to the doctor’s cabin. There I was apprised that I had to undergo a surgery, and that they had found a donor. As these words pierced into my ears, my happiness knew no bounds. I was exhilarated to undergo the surgery and finally be free from my pallid life. After six long hours , my surgery was over. I felt really weary on waking up. But I was keen to know who was the one, who had bestowed me with the gift of life.
On reluctant urging, my dad apprised me about who lend a helping hand in keeping me alive. He said with a gentle voice. “The person who gave you this gift was your Mom !” I could not digest this. My ebullience of being alive perished into a million pieces . My mother had given me the greatest gift of life. Not only was she the one who brought me into this world but was also the one who risked her life to keep me alive. It was the greatest gift a child could ever receive !
