“It’s not my fault,” he shouted. Andrew’s bellows resonated across the snowy forest as the adroit police officers were approaching with an augmenting pace, accompanied by their sniffer dogs. The wind blowing through the pine trees made eerie , melancholic noises as Andrew drenched in crimson blood was holding the body of his brother, Ernie. Trepidation stroked up and down and his spine as the realisation of his inevitable capture dawned upon him. All the evidence points towards him and even I f it didn’t the real culprits had already lined the police department’s pockets a myriad of times before.
As night dawned, the fulgent rays of the gargantuan glowing orb and the salmon sky gave way to the atramentous sky, dotted with specs of fulgent stars . The frigid cold only proliferated as Andrew and Ernie almost glaciating in the gelid climate darted into the nearby cafeteria lounge run by ‘Red’ John Crawford. Andrew heaved a sigh of relief as the warm air inside enveloped him. They had dropped by to pick up the weekly shipment of goods ‘Red’ wanted transported to the village a stone’s throw away. Andrew was bewildered when Ernie said he had found a new client as it would be a piece of cake to transport the goods himself but he went along with it. As they awaited the shipment, a gleaming black jeep roared across the store and pulled up nearby. On seeing this, Ernie’s face turned cadaverous . He was rooted to the spot and on seeing his eyes, was brimming with affrightning thoughts, vexation began mounting within him too. As innumerable thoughts raced through his mind like lightning, out of the blue, he felt a sharp pain at the back of his head which morphed in an unrelenting throbbing. As he felt the febrile touch of blood trickling down his forehead it all went atramentous.
Andrew woke up from his deep slumber and rubbed his bleary eyes to discern the face of the infamous gangster, Gustavo Garica. Garcia was the reason the market was flooded with illegal narcotics, which were detrimental to the health of anyone who consumed them. His avarice was clear from the tone in which he spoke, he went on to explain how Ernie had betrayed Andrew, and was using ‘ Red’s’ cafeteria as a front for transporting narcotics. He had too consumed these narcotics and it had become his vice. Hw was left indebted as he purchased these narcotics, which cost an arm and a leg , on a daily basis. It had been four months now, when two weeks ago Ernie was persuaded by his friends to steal a meagre amount of the cumbersome shipment. Blinded by the alluring façade of quick riches he did that for the last shipment and the one before it too. Andrew felt a tidal wave of despair crash onto his chest as Gustavo turned to Ernie and without uttering a single word, continued to relentlessly strike his head with the metal pipe he had clutched in his hand. Specs of blood flew across in all four directions as a red and white mosaic was created by the obliteration of Enrie’s head or whatever remained of it at its centre. Andrew sobbed incessantly as febrile tears scalded his cheeks, which had become blue because of the gelid cold. Gustavo advanced towards him and left the blood smeared metal pipe in his palm before striking him over his head.
As woke up to the blaring drone of the police sirens, he crawled towards his brother and held him in his clutches. He knew that the nefarious Gustavo had already greased the palms of these corrupt officials as they approached him. Melancholy overwhelmed him as he accepted the eventual apprehension and life long incarceration that was written in his fate.
