Our curriculums are designed to inculcate a love for writing in a manner that stimulates imagination.

Grade 1

I] COMPREHENSIONS

Basic reading passages, mostly stories and some informative

Core Learning :

  • Understanding start and end of a sentence.
  • Comprehending the question and locating suitable answers.
  • Significant impact on the child’s reading skills, coordination of hand motor skills.
  • Affects pace of writing.
  • Also involves framing answers as per questions.
  • Exposes the child to various questions.

– Choose the correct word from the bracket.

II] GRAMMAR

The most fundamental elements which are crucial for sentence formation.

  • A or An
  • Singular or Plural
  • Helper Verb Usage (am/is/are, was/were, has/have, this/that, these/those)
  • Nouns [ proper nouns and common nouns]
  • Verbs [doing words]
  • Adjectives [describing words]
  • Pronouns [personal]
  • Prepositions
  • Punctuations
  • Conjunctions

Understanding of GRAMMAR in sentences:

– Mother took sam to the park.
– Mother took Sam to the park.

Understanding usage of Proper noun as a part of punctuations.

Use of Adjectives:

– Mary watches cartoons.
– Mary watches funny cartoons.

The concept of applying Adjectives to speaking and writing sentences is taught along with the topic.

III] CREATIVE WRITING SKILLS

  • Vocabulary words – Replacing basic words and learning new words
    – Happy – cheerful
    – Tina is a cheerful girl.
    – Many- several
    – I have several wonderful toys.

  • Similes – Basic learning of similes followed by application:
    – The tree is as tall as a giraffe.
    – The bag is as light as a feather.
    – Mother is as pretty as a princess.
    – Father is as busy as a bee.
    – The park was big.

Simile: The park was as big as an airport.
Simile & Vocabulary: The park was as huge as an airport.


NOTE : Please note , it is imperative for the children to read the creative writing books minimum thrice a week to ensure they are able to grasp and enhance the language learnt in class.

Opening the book right before the assessment will not work to see a great enhancement in your writing skills. [Unfortunately, it does not work like Aladdin’s magic lamp]

Every week the children are provided with one creative writing assignment which is required to be submitted in the following week for evaluation. Ensure regular submission of the writing assignment so that the child does not find it burdensome and monotonous.
